This past week, on Wednesday the 16th, Maryvale hosted our annual Sports Banquet in celebration of all of our athletes and athletic teams. It was a night filled with fun, food, and many awards and accolades.  Here is a brief highlight of the night.

Every year, a countless number of awards are given out at this banquet. Our school is filled with amazing athletes and students, and this is a great time to showcase these girls’ abilities.

Senior Paige Connel received the Scholar Athlete award. This award is given to a student who excels in  both the classroom and on the field.

Senior Marlee Whitee Senior got the Excellence Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association.

The following students received the Lion Award. This awards is given to students who participated on a sports team for 12 seasons (Every sports season of high school).  All of them are seniors:

Allemai Dagnatchew

Julia Piet

Liza Lewandowski

Celly Arthur

Marlee White

Taylor Cover

Allie Furnari

The final award received was the George G. Litz Memorial Scholarship. This prestigious Maryvale award went to junior, Elaina Stevers.

There were also two awards given out for every sports team. One was the MVP (most valuable player) and the other was the Unsung Hero Award. Girls were also recognized if they participated in two or more sports this season. But whether a girl received an award or not, everyone was excited to receive their pins for their sports, get their certificates, and see their coaches again. Now, as the seniors approach graduation, the whole athletic community is proud and excited for all of the girls that will be continuing in their sports for college.

On another note, we have many graduating seniors who are playing a sport in college for both Division I and III schools in various sports:

Celly Arthur is playing lacrosse at York College

Ally Furnari is playing lacrosse Wofford College

Alex Martinez is playing soccer at St. Francis University

Julia Piet is playing lacrosse at Catholic University

Erin Shaffrey is doing track & field at Virginia Tech

Sophia Shucosky is playing lacrosse at UMBC

Riley Wagner is playing lacrosse at Marist

This is an amazing accomplishment and I think I speak for the entire Maryvale community when I wish these girls well on both their athletic and college endeavors.  Their presence on our sports teams will be sorely missed, but I am sure that they will carry on their Maryvale spirit as they continue on in college and for the rest of their lives.  It has been an amazing year in the Maryvale Athletic community.  Get excited for next season!
