Calling all fashion gurus, lovers of style, future models, and fashion trend setters: Maryvale now has its own Fashion Club, and it is open and ready for business.

Sophomore Julia Grier, club founder, has been developing her passion for fashion over the years. It started when she used to dance. At this young age she fell in love with the look and feel of the costumes. This adoration transformed into curiosity for the industry that was responsible for them: the fashion industry. It was not hard for Julia to find her love for fashion as she has two seamstresses in the family and loves watching the show “America’s Next Top Model”.  While visiting her brother in California, she also looked at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM), a college that specializes in areas of the fashion industry. It was there that she decided to start a club that demonstrated her love for fashion.

The club is a great place to discover a new interest or show one’s talents. The main purpose is for people to get to learn about different aspects of the fashion industry and share their style and ideas. Julia said she wants to help other people find their passion for fashion or even discover a possible career path. The club has different groups designated for each component of the industry. Some examples are accessories, costumes, interior design, architectural design, and clothing. In these groups, club members will be able to talk about their favorite styles or sketch some of their very own ideas.

The Fashion Club is very open and welcoming to everyone; it does not matter whether you know how to sew or just like to shop, the Fashion Club is a good place to find your own style and see if you want to pursue fashion outside of high school, maybe even going to FIDM like Julia wants to. At the club you can show off your creative side and learn some of the latest fashion trends. Julia said that there is a lot of interest in the club and she hopes for a successful year.

If you are interested, meetings will be held on Wednesdays during the resource period in Ms. Malloy’s room. The first meeting will be held on Wednesday October 5 and if you have any questions email Julia at [email protected]
